Out and About
Morwenstow near Bude
Poppies is a perfect place to discover the unspoilt area of North Cornwall, yet it is also so close the beautiful countryside of North Devon.
Our home parish of Morwenstow has a 13th Century Inn, The Bush Inn, which is open all day with snacks and home cooked meals available. There is also The Rectory Tearooms that are well worth a visit. Plenty of coastal paths can be found leading out of the parish and along the rugged North Cornwall coastline. For more ‘gentle’ walks the local roads and lanes are ideal with gorgeous views over the countryside and coastline beyond.
Local beaches, Duckpool and Sandymouth are well worth a visit, however swimming is not recommended at either of these. They are great for collecting stones, climbing amongst the smaller rocks and enjoying the views.
Further afield, the coastal town of Bude is just a 15 minute drive away. Here you will find fantastic sandy beaches for the children to dig and swim, also plenty of restaurants, cafes and snack bars. There is mini-golf, pitch and putt, tennis courts, golf course, Bude and Stratton Museum, the canal and plenty of open spaces for everybody to run, walk and let of steam.
Crooklets, another of Budes beaches is a great place for surfing. If you don’t fancy having a go it is a great place to sit at the beachside café and watch those that do have a go!
Further south are many Cornish seaside towns, all of which are a good day out. Boscastle, which of course is famous for it floods in August 2004, has now been rebuilt and is a very pretty harbourside village, a must for any visitor to see.
Padstow is further south which is now famous for being home to Rick Steins restaurants and slightly further south, in Watergate Bay, Jamie Oliver has opened his second 15 restaurant.
To the north we have Hartland (the largest Parish in Devon) and the historic fishing village of Clovelly. Both are just short drives away with plenty to visit and see. Further north you will find the lush green countryside and beaches of North Devon with much more beyond.
On our links page we have added links to several places and attractions that are good days out for the whole family, please take a look.
